COMMUNITY SCORECARD REPORT ON HEALTH IN VIHIGA COUNTY.

The Community Scorecard (CSC) initiative, implemented by TISA with support from URAIA Trust and the Royal Danish Embassy (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in Kenya), was carried out across the five Sub-County Hospitals (SCH) in Vihiga County: Sabatia SCH, Hamisi SCH, Emusire SCH, Luanda SCH, and Lyanaginga SCH. The process created a structured platform for citizens, health providers, and county officials to jointly assess the quality of health services, identify challenges, and develop solutions through joint action planning.

The findings from the Community Scorecard (CSC) revealed several critical issues affecting health service delivery. Communities highlighted persistent challenges, including frequent drug stock-outs, shortages of medical personnel, and delays in laboratory services, which continue to undermine the quality of care. Facilities also reported inadequate equipment and poor infrastructure, limiting their ability to provide effective services. Notably, the process underscored the absence of inclusive infrastructure to support persons with disabilities in accessing hospital buildings and services, an area that requires urgent attention if facilities are to meet the needs of all citizens.
