Violence spares no one: Kenya’s streets now bear unacceptable pain and loss.
We are deeply outraged and heartbroken by the events that unfolded during the June 25th, 2025 protests across Kenya. What should have been a moment for peaceful expression of discontent, as outrightly catered for under Article 37 of the very constitution we swore to uphold, turned into a national tragedy, marked by bloodshed, brutality, and betrayal of the very people our institutions are meant to serve.
Not only were there reports of at least 16 deaths of innocent protestors and over hundreds of injured protestors, failure to protect women from being raped, but you also stood by as criminal elements looted and destroyed property. Instead of protecting the people, law enforcement focused its energy on harassing and brutalizing protesters on a day of memorial making one year since Gen Z protests in June 2024. Courts of law were not spared the wrath of the protests as Kikuyu Law Courts, two (2) national and county government administrative offices, nine (9) police stations were torched and over 50 government-registered vehicles were vandalized during Wednesday’s June 25th anniversary Gen Z protests. The destruction left 300 police officers injured.
